Better Jobs Ontario
Are you Laid Off?
Don’t let a layoff hold you back! You may be eligible for Government Financial Support to upgrade your skills and start a new career path.
Better Jobs Ontario (BJO), formerly known as the Second Career Strategy, is a government program that helps unemployed or underemployed individuals rejoin the workforce in less than 52 weeks. Eligible applicants receive skills training for in-demand jobs along with financial support. Funding of up to $28,000 may be available to cover the cost of tuition, books, transportation, basic living allowance and other instructional costs, including childcare, disability-related supports, living away from home, Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) and/or language training.
Eligibility
You may qualify for Better Jobs Ontario if you:
- have been laid-off and have not been working or are working a temporary job just to cover costs
- have not been laid-off but have been unemployed for six months or longer and are part of a low-income household
- receive Employment Insurance (EI), Ontario Works (OW) or Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)
- were laid off on or after March 1, 2020 due to COVID-19.
Better Jobs Ontario is a need-based grant, so you may be required to contribute financially to your training or education. If you qualify, you can gain valuable skills while receiving financial support to help you succeed.
